Reconstructive Surgery

Oksana was admitted to Shriner's last Wednesday for a plastic revision to her nose and lip. The Physician told us he had to take the "whole thing apart" and put it back together but she really needed it. He told me that she will look different now- which made me sort of sad because I thought she was beautiful just the way she was. Hopefully this will help her nose; and she won't have so many sinus infections once it is opened larger.

We talked about what to tell everyone. I was worried she would not know how to explain her bruised face, stiched lip-nose and bandaged nose, with globs of dried blood, and a major shiner!

Instead of explaining she had cleft, I told her to tell them she had surgery to repair a boo-boo.

This has really helped because so far everyone thinks that:

A. She fell off her bike
B. She got hit by a baseball/soccerball, etc...

Two more weeks and we will see the new Oksana!

Mother's Day

Mother's Day has always been bittersweet to me.
Through the years, my birthday has often fallen on Mother's Day.
I always thought how proud my mom was when she looked at me celebrating my birthday, on her special day.
I always loved to surprise my mom with a homemade card, some wildflowers and maybe homemade desert.
Twenty years ago, I gave my mom a card on mom's day, as she laid in the hospital struggling with the pain of complications from leukemia. It was the last mother's day, I would celebrate with her. She passed away that June. Twenty years ago this year.

Today when I came down stairs, I was greeted by some beautiful plants and cards! Smiling proudly stood my own daughter; who reminded me so much of myself at her young age.
She was so proud to have snuck in the flower surprises without me knowing; and happy to see me smile! She had inpatiently waited for three days, to retrieve her goodies she had made at school for the occassion as well. She was giddy with delight! Of course, the boys were more interested in playing their video games instead.

I hope she remembers these special days and surprises twenty years from now. The same way, I recall the special bond Mother's Day held for my mom and me.

Quickly catching up

I know that I have been negligent in my blogging- so I will quickly backtrack.

March came and went with three significant occurrences.

Larry turned 45.
Nikolai turned 9.
And four years ago on March 31st, we were shown the first picture of a little girl that was precious Oksana.

April began the start of Soccer for all three kids.
They are all doing an outstanding job for their teams and Vitaly even scored a goal (huge feat for him)!
Nikolai is a powerhouse with the soccer ball and great goalie.
When not conversing with the other players or picking flowers on the field Oksana has exceptional soccer abilities!

At the end of April, I got to travel to San Antonio for work.

Last we are slowly getting our remodeling completed with the help of a hired handyman. Unfortunately the slowness is due not only to my lack of interior decorating finesse but to our handyman’s calling in sick policy- which happens a lot! Maybe by the end of May, I can post the pictures of my new dining room!
